This song rulez! This is the ultimate, the end of all metal songs, and while being the ultimate statement in metal it is simultaneously all metal songs at once! Well, not at once, but beyond being just a song, it is an architecture for generating every metal song you will ever need. Yes, welcome to the future, you are here, and you are listening to generative heavy metal music.
But alas, this is also where everything went wrong. You see, the setup for this song (a Max/MSP patch) is so complicated that I spent about 2/3 of my album-a-day time working on this song, leaving only a few hours to complete the rest of the album. But this was the one great triumph of the day.

Fuera La Marina, Paz Para Vieques | 5:00 |
Okay, this song is really long, I'm sorry. Excruciatingly long. What it basically consists of is about 3 and a half minutes of me playing electric guitar, processed mostly beyond recognition. For some reason, when I was producing it, I got to the end of the guitar material and I felt like I got cut off short, like there was still more that needed to come. So I repeated about 1.5 minutes more of the guitar, and what you get is one goddam long, and often excruciately aimless song. I'm sorry. For the very patient folks out there, though, I think that there is maybe 20 or 30 seconds worth of decent sounding moments in there.

Tortilla Tranquila | 4:21 |
This is another semi-generative/randomly-generated song. Basically the two-part sine wave melody is random, within certain ranges of probability that I controlled. And then there are the 70s breakbeats. That's about it. It's got its good points, although it is pretty dull, and long.

This song is actually kind of okay I think, although a bit simple and minimal, in not such a great way. Perhaps it could have become part of something more interesting if I wasn't trying to make 90% of my album-a-day in 4 hours...

What is this horrible noodling? Just a bunch of drums totally scrambled with 5 parallel processes of Scrubby.* It goes on for about a minute and then stops. Sorry. I was trying to amass 20 minutes worth of music to meet the rules.
* an effect that I'm currently working on, which by the way is really fantastic, although you can't tell from this song

Los Plátanos Están Muy Ocupados | 1:01 |
I tried to make a Nintendo-style song. I really love Nintendo music. But this song is not so great. I had a really big headache and wasn't into it, couldn't get inspired, didn't feel like making music anymore. That's the way I felt making the second half or so of these songs, actually. I apologize if you're actually listening to these.

This has got to be the noodliest song I've ever made. It took me as long to make this song as it takes you to listen to it, and that ain't me bragging. Featuring an in-the-works software effect/instrument of mine called Stuck Synth, and nothing else, ugh, just horrible noodling...

Burbuja Cristalina Morbosa | 3:08 |
The worst mock-tekno song ever. You know how sometimes it's fun to make a sort of ridiculous attempt at some ridiculous cheesy sort of song? Well, there's nothing fun about this song, it's just bad.
I'm not sure which is worse: this song or the Stuck Synth song. I kind of think that this one might be worse though, which means that this one is REALLY awful. |
